Background
L’Oréal Group brands Lancôme, YSL Beauty, Armani Beauty, and Prada Beauty have partnered with packaging specialist Cosmogen to develop premium mini lipstick formats for travel retail and discovery kits.
The new mini products aim to make luxury makeup more accessible to travellers and first-time users, while keeping the same look, feel, and performance as full-size lipsticks. Cosmogen said it worked closely with each brand to provide fully customised solutions, covering design, production, and industrial development.
The company has combined tailor-made mini designs with a standard 1.4-gram “ready-to-go” format. This approach helps brands control production costs without lowering quality or visual appeal. According to Cosmogen, the strategy allows brands to offer sets with multiple shades at an affordable price, which is especially attractive to Gen Z consumers who prefer variety and trial-size products.
Maud Lelièvre, Marketing and Communication Director at Cosmogen, said the biggest challenge was shrinking complex designs into a small format while keeping full-size standards. She noted that every mini lipstick was treated as a separate project, from design to industrialisation, to reflect each brand’s identity, finishes, and technical needs.
She added that quality elements such as the click mechanism, decoration accuracy, and production reliability remained key priorities despite the reduced size.
The partnership builds on Cosmogen’s growing focus on mini and micro beauty formats. Recently, the company launched Squeeze’n Roll roll-on applicators made from semi-precious stones, offering micro, mini, standard, and maxi sizes.
Last year, Cosmogen also supplied men’s skincare brand Horace with a cosmetic stick made from post-consumer recycled PET. The packaging suits wax-based and anhydrous formulas such as lip balms, concealers and sun care products.
With the new mini lipstick range, L’Oréal brands aim to strengthen their presence in travel retail and meet rising demand for compact, high-end beauty products.
