Background-
E.l.f Beauty has raised its full-year sales outlook after posting a standout opening quarter, powered by strong momentum from Hailey Bieber’s Rhode brand.
Sales across the company grew 36 percent to $479.4 million in the first quarter of its fiscal year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation reached $168 million, up 93 percent from the prior year, or 36 percent excluding tariff refunds.
Net income climbed to $105 million from $51 million, with tariff refunds contributing $40 million of that gain. The company received $50 million in tariff refunds during the quarter and plans to reinvest the funds through pricing actions and expanded marketing.
Chairman and Chief Executive Tarang Amin said the quarter marked the company’s 30th straight quarter of net sales growth, spanning more than seven years, and credited the results to the strength of its team, strategy, and brand portfolio.
He said the momentum prompted the company to lift its fiscal year sales growth outlook to a range of 18 to 20 percent, up from an earlier 12 to 14 percent projection.
Rhode contributed $160 million in net sales for the quarter, backed by strong retail launches at Sephora in the UK and North America and at Australian retailer Mecca, with a European Sephora rollout planned across 19 countries.
The brand’s new summer range generated $27 million in direct-to-consumer sales through its website in a single day, drawing 90,000 new customers, of whom 70 percent were repeat buyers. Amin said the company believes Rhode could become the fastest beauty brand to reach $1 billion in net sales.
E.l.f Cosmetics also gained ground through product innovation, a fragrance collaboration with H&M, and an entry into hair care, with more than half of hair care buyers new to the brand.
The company plans further expansion into Sephora Brazil, Boots in the UK, and Dollar General in the US, while Naturium prepares to launch in Sephora Canada and Mexico.
