Aspiring makeup artists from across Meghalaya gathered at Riatsamthiah Banquet Hall this week for a one-day masterclass on beauty and artistry, aimed at building industry knowledge and practical skills among participants.
The event, titled “Day of Beauty, Artistry and Inspiration,” was organised by Badap Hynniewta, founder of Accentuate Makeup & Hair Academy, in collaboration with Dubai-based celebrity makeup artist Audrey Sangma. It drew participants from Shillong, Jowai and other parts of the state.
Hynniewta said the masterclass aimed to bridge the gap between passion and professionalism by giving artists access to current trends and technical knowledge. He said interest in the programme exceeded expectations, prompting organisers to cap participation at 60 for a more focused learning environment.
Participants received hands-on training in bridal makeup, hairstyling, client consultation and product selection during the day-long session. Hynniewta, who runs training centres in Shillong and Mairang, said demand for careers in beauty and hairstyling was growing among young people, making specialised training increasingly important.
For many attendees, the highlight was learning from Sangma, whose career spans more than 16 years across the beauty, fashion and bridal industries. Originally from Tura, she said returning to Meghalaya for the masterclass held special significance and reflected her wish to contribute to local talent development. She shared lessons from working abroad, particularly the value of discipline and professionalism, alongside artistic skill.
During a live demonstration, Sangma showcased her signature soft-glam bridal look, explaining that modern bridal makeup focused on enhancing natural features rather than dramatically altering them. She said she hoped to start an initiative in her hometown of Tura in the future.
The event, supported by the Chief Minister’s Office, partnered with PAC Cosmetics and Jacqueline Bridal, and concluded with certificate distribution.
